Procedures Performed
Office-based Treatment
Many conditions that Dr. Patil treats can be addressed in his office. This often allows for same-day treatment without the need for any surgery.
- Hemorrhoids: The vast majority of hemorrhoid patients can be treated in the office with a quick and painless procedure called rubber band ligation. This is a simple yet effective therapy that can often prevent patients from needing surgery. Most hemorrhoid patients of Dr. Patil’s never require surgery.
- Thrombosed External Hemorrhoid: This is a painful lump that forms due to a blood clot in an external hemorrhoid underneath the skin. The clot is removed in the office providing immediate relief from discomfort.
- Evaluation of rectal pain and/or bleeding
- Treatment of perianal abscesses
- Treatment of pilonidal cyst
- Condyloma/HPV
Outpatient Surgery
At times, if a person’s condition is slightly more advanced or his or her symptoms are more severe, outpatient surgery may be necessary. This is due to the need for mild sedation in order to evaluate and treat the problem. Dr. Patil’s outpatient surgical procedures are generally no longer than thirty minutes and the person goes home the same day. An instruction sheet regarding postoperative care after outpatient surgery is included on this website under the Information for Patients menu tab.
Minimally-invasive surgery (Laparoscopy or Robotics)
Minimally-invasive surgery refers to the use of small incisions and specialized equipment to perform abdominal surgery in a less traumatic fashion. In the surgical literature, these procedures have been shown to be as safe and effective as traditional “open” surgery. Minimally-invasive surgery is an improvement over open surgery in that it provides quicker postoperative recovery, less pain, a shorter hospital stay, and better cosmetic results. Dr. Patil utilizes laparoscopy and the daVinci surgical robot and over 90% of his abdominal procedures are minimally-invasive. The following conditions can be treated with laparoscopy or robotics and ask Dr. Patil if you are a candidate.
- Diverticulitis
- Crohn’s disease
- Ulcerative colitis
- Stomas (ostomy)
- Colon Polyps
- Colon cancer
- Rectal cancer
